I am rooting for you! Love You!

What up my good people. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Welcome to another episode of the Convicted to Grow podcast. I'm your girl coach, Tressa, motivational speaker, confidence and business coach. This podcast is designed for daily growth in life and in business, where we discuss real life stories, practical insights, how to grow, whether it's in life or business. And so we always talk about transformation, resilience, innovation, building confidence and entrepreneurship. And y 'all listen, I'm so excited because I get to introduce a dope brother. Like he is a real estate instructor of New Jersey, a licensed real estate broker, motivational speaker, self -published author, investor, mentor, great father and a grandfather. And, uh, He's all around, right? But I met this guy a year ago at the Next Level Speakers Conference. Shout out to the Next Level Speakers Community where I have met a lot of dope people, individuals that got something to say and have a voice and have a purpose. And so without further ado, I want to introduce to you, Davileer Turner. Now he's already told me he goes by the name Dab, okay? So I'm going to be calling him Dab throughout this show, but welcome, welcome, welcome from tuning in and just know that you can also find this full video version of this episode, especially if you listen to it through audio on our YouTube channel, Convicted to Grow. So let's get started. Hey friend. Hey, how you doing coach Chesa? How you doing today? I'm doing great. I'm doing great. Listen, I'm excited and a little anxious for nothing. I'm gonna keep it real with you. Well, before you start, I just wanna say that I'm very proud of you. I'm very proud of your podcast. I see you moving, I see you motivating, I still watch you every day. And I just wanna thank you for encouraging me in the mornings sometimes when I needed to. So just keep doing what you're doing and it's a blessing to be in your circle and keep moving and motivating. Thank you, thank you. And so y 'all already told y 'all in the last few episodes that... As I grow on this journey, I'm growing, learning at the same time, not a podcast to me. So look, charge it to my mind and not my heart. If I say something that's not grammatically correct or whatever, but like I said, I'm learning as I go. But we're going to go with the flow as always. And so go ahead, Dab. Tell me, go ahead, let's share, tell me a little bit about your background, where you from and all this good stuff. My name is Dabalea Dab. People call me Dab Turner. I'm from New Jersey, Jersey City, Jersey City. I'm from Jersey City, live in Newark, New Jersey. So I usually, you know, flow through both towns. So, you know, my background is, well now I'm a licensed real estate broker and instructor. Like you said, in an annunciation, I'm a speaker. I do a lot of different things, invest, flip properties, but in order to get there, it took me a while. and I went through some things to get to this point of being persistent, committed and legal. You know, a lot of people forget those aspects because I went through things in my younger days that brought me out to become the person that I am today. Wow, wow. Speaking of the past, and even though we don't live from in the past, we do learn from it. If you can share like a specific moment or experience. that pretty much was your shift in pivot moment or test of your conviction where you knew you had to shift into the direction of growing to the man you are today. One of the things that made me shift in pivot was when I was 19 years old, I was sentenced to five years in prison. So, but I ended up going in at 19, I came home, I was 25. And then that time, when I was in jail, it was still a time when the younger guys respected the older guys, that watched us grow up and stuff. So, I'm in there, I'm being a little knucklehead and some of the older guys is like, dad, you gotta calm down. It's about going home. It's about getting back to your family. It's not about being tough. It's not about fighting. It's not about nothing. And at that moment, it made me understand, you know, I'm like, these are all the tough guys I know from the street talk about calm down and let's go home. You know, so I'm like, at that moment it shifted in me like, this is not what it is. You know, I'm standing here, this is not where I'm supposed to be. I'm not an animal. I'm not supposed to be caged up. And at that time when I was in jail, what I did was I started using, after that I started using my time progressively because I started teaching the GED class. and the art class. So I figured if I could get help people get a little bit more educated, you know, while I'm here and make use of the time. And I used to have to tell some of my friends like, come on, get off the ball field, get this education. The gym is not going nowhere. We don't have to work out all day. Let's exercise our mind. And at this time I used to be, and once I got out of the foolish stage, I call it, I went into my pro black moment, you know? And that really just sparked another thing in me, you know? So. I'm running around with the Malcolm X gold tee and you know, all that stuff. So I'm really on pro black. Let's make ourselves not look foolish no more. Let's strive to get out of here, become a better unit. Wow, wow. Did you have an afro? No, I didn't ever have an afro. Oh, okay. I don't want to do the braid stage, the bald head stage and the wave stage was always my thing. But you know, when you're doing... when you sitting down for over five years of change, you change, you transform and you try things. Well, you know the braids. This was 1993 I'm talking about. So, you know, I'm talking about, this wasn't that recently, we going back, you know. Oh yeah, yeah, 93. I think if I'm not mistaken, that's what we're doing that Alan Iverson era where everybody wanted - the braids and the onyx and the bald heads and then, you know, you start just, you know, just switching up, you know. So that's what it was. Wow. But that - That journey was a journey that I really needed at that place and time in my life though. Because I always say, if it wasn't for the judge, since me to five years, I probably would have ended up on the street probably getting 25 or 30 years for something else. So that was a change and shift in my life. And I'm thankful for it actually, and I wouldn't give it back. Wow, wow. You definitely have a story. You definitely have a purpose. When you started teaching, like you say, giving back and... helping other brothers. Is that when you realized you had a calling to your purpose as your voice as a speaker? Well, you know what it is. On the street, I thought I had a calling too. I mean, when you're young, you're young and foolish. You think I can talk everybody into working for me to become the biggest dealer or whatever. But then, being that I knew a lot of people, it was a lot easier for me to tell them the less. let's stop playing and get educated. And that was a shift in the calling, because I knew like, if some people will follow me, so it's my job to lead them right and help them and go towards the right path and not go through this again. Right. And this was in New Jersey. Wow. And I know you up there, New Jersey, Philly, New York, that was that era in those days. And I know it's even worse now. with the younger generation that we have. So once you did that, then you got into real estate or was there just a series of you just trying to figure out life? You know, cause a lot of times we like, all right, let me dibble in this, let me dibble in that until I find out what I really like, you know, in terms of the business side. Well, I came home with a plan. I knew one thing I wasn't going to do and I didn't plan on going back to jail. You know, that was the plan. So. My thing was to come home and figure it out. So what I did when I came home being at, I was living in Newark at the time, they paid for me to go to school for computer networking. And at that time I went to school and became a Microsoft certified systems engineer. Cause we talking about 99, that's the wave that was going on, the computer thing and everything. So I went to school for that. And I ended up doing that for maybe six months because after that time when I, in 2000, I had just got married. And... And I was doing that on a night shift and it was strenuous and my friends ended up talking me into doing real estate. Cause they was doing mortgages. So they, you know, they, they said, listen, you do this, you know, a lot of people, you do this with senior to clients, you don't have to worry about clients. And at that time I was a newlywed and I didn't want to work at night. And it was two shifts open in the daytime. They wouldn't move me. So I went to real estate school and, the money that they was paying me a year at TD Waterhouse. And I'm thankful for the opportunity being an ex -con coming out, got my MCSC and computer network and they did hire me. And I was very thankful and honest with them and they gave me the job. But at the same time, once I started doing real estate in six months, I've made my year's salary. And I knew at that time it was time for me to go. Wow. Wow. And that just goes to show, you know, cause there are a lot of people who start something and they stay on that job for years and years and not happy, but they don't trust themselves to make a leap or make a shift in pivot. Like you said, you went to school for computers. You knew that, you knew it real well. Was there like a fear? At first when you said, okay, I'm going all in. I know the money you was like, okay, this is where I supposed to be at. But in the beginning, what would you tell somebody who's at a job right now? They ain't making, they complaining because they ain't making the money. They complaining because they don't have time with their family. Like you said, you are newlywed. Wifey wants the time. And you working all these hours and stuff like that. Or they complaining because they don't have a work life balance. But yet and still they stay stuck. and they complain, whereas you said, okay, I can't complain. What would you tell somebody in that situation? Well, I mean, like I said before, I come from the street ever. So I felt like I should be working for myself and not on nobody else's clock, you know? So that was one of the feelings that I felt. But coming from, coming from the jail situation, I'm sitting there working for two, three dollars a day. So I'm like, you know, so. If I could work for a person for $3 a day, ain't no way I cannot bet on myself and do better than that. So I said, it's time to bet, I'm gonna bet on me and go for it. I know in six months what I made and I know I could do better than that. And so what I did is I had to bet on me and I went for it. And with my friends supporting me, backing me up and people even entrusting in me, it worked out for me. And here I am 24 years later still at it. So. That's what it was for me. It was the shift right there that made me say, go for it. This is your destination and this is the journey for you. Wow. Congratulations. Congratulations for, you guys heard it. He said he had the bet on himself and that obedience is what births favor. Believing in yourself and saying, you know what, I'm all in. And I'm... Sure at that time did you have people around you that was where you said you had your friends? Um, because a lot of times people don't have the right support system around them That can really hinder your growth when you don't have the right people that really because somebody could have said man stick to this nine to five what you join because Real estate is it do you start off commission -based? Well, there's always commission -based real estate. Oh, okay. Okay, it's still commission -based. Okay? And I think that's what some, why some people, I'm not in a real estate game, but I think that's probably why some people don't stick with as long or they like, nah, I need to still have this nine to five over here. Cause I need something steady. But to me, real estate sounds like to me, it's a sales, it's customer service, it's a hustle. So you use that street mentality, that hustle mentality, but now you're doing legally, right? And so you've been doing it for 20, four plus years, you're gonna come up on your 25th year. Now, wow, this real estate game. Allala, and I know you said you're a broker and I remember doing a pre -call and you can share a little bit if you want. You had mentioned that your goal, your vision for 2024 is eventually, you know, start your own real estate school. Yes. What is the vision for that? Well, I mean, I'm not visualizing anything. I'm manifesting. So that's where I'm at in my life right now. My bad, y 'all. Y 'all heard that. So I'm not the person. I stopped dreaming and I started manifesting everything. Let me write that down. So I started making it happen. So this year, I have the building already. I just have to renovate the building. Newark, New Jersey gave me one of the buildings that will become my real estate school. And God willing, inshallah, it'll be open before the year is out. Once I start going in and renovating, I'm doing a few projects right now. I'm renovating now. I'm going to get to that one hopefully before June. And hopefully I can have it done by before the winter hits. Wow. You just get, listen, I had to take notes. I feel like I be getting coaching sessions when I interview people. You said you ain't envisioning nothing. You tired of dreaming. You manifesting that. Wow. Oh my gosh, that's bars right there. I'm gonna make sure I clip that out for sound bites for that. Oh my gosh. Wow. I mean, and whether you in real estate or in your business as an entrepreneur, as a business owner, what would you say? Give me, and I know we didn't, we didn't, we're going with the flow with this, but what would you say is as an entrepreneur? remind the people getting the three pros about being an entrepreneur and be real when your 24 years of being an entrepreneur, what are the three cons of being it? Well, I mean, one of the things about being an entrepreneur, I'm going to tell people is to always bet on yourself. That's number one. Another thing I've learned in entrepreneurship is just cause your friends will not deal with you, there is another audience outside of them. So you can't get stuck talking about my friends won't do this, my friends won't do it. Guess what? Meet new friends, meet new associates. Like I used to party promote, right? And I used to be a party promoter too. So what I did was one time I used to do all type of music at parties. Just to give an example. And as I got older, I switched to only house music. So some of the people that used to come to the other parties didn't want to come to the house parties. So what I did. I created a new following of house music followers that come to the house music parties. So it's always another audience that you could tap into. Another thing is your vision is only gonna go as far as you make it go. A lot of people get tired and quit, but I mean, you have to become your own reality in what you wanna do. Like you have to believe in it so hard where you have to say, I'm not letting that stop me. This is what I'm gonna do. My vision is gonna become a reality. I am determined to succeed at what I wanna do and don't let nothing get in your way. You have to eat, sleep and breathe what it is that you really wanna do and what you want your business to become in order for it to be successful. That was some, you dropping motivation. Do you be dropping this on your content? Cause I ain't gonna lie, I like that. Sometimes I do, sometimes I do. Oh man, we need a money motivation word with dab, like in the car, cause you do some motivation in the car sometimes, but I mean, people in business need to, that's motivation. Like I just, I got chill bumps with that. Eat, sleep, breathe it, like for real, for real. Oh wow. You have to become it. You have to become one with your, you know. What you're trying to do, you have to become it. Yeah. And it just goes to show, you said something. If your friends ain't doing it, get a new group of friends. I always say, like ET, shout out to Dr. Eric Thomas. He always say, put yourself where you see yourself. And I always say proximity is power. I'll use us and how we connected. I was going... I knew that around the people I was hanging with, they wouldn't make me a better speaker. I had to go to a conference around other like -minded people that everybody want to win. Everybody has the same mindset. And that's why they say, don't tell your dreams, your visions to dream killers. Stop telling your people, your dreams and stuff to your family and friends, because if you don't get a reaction from them, you immediately. think it's a dumb idea or you don't execute or you don't pursue it. And so therefore you just let that idea just die out. And I've said this even in content, some of us are walking around right now with million dollar ideas. Like he just said, y 'all, you keep visioning, visioning, visioning, you're dreaming, dreaming, dreaming. But when are you going to execute? When are you going to execute and say, you know what, I got to do something. I always say, In order to expect more in 2024, you got to do more. Yes, you do. I mean, you know, it is like. But I don't. And so for us, when we, when going to that conference, it's crazy because even though I went there to get fed by some amazing speakers, Jeremy Anderson, Inky Johnson, all those great ones pass the key on. But my biggest return on investment was meeting and connecting with you guys. Yes. And we already talked. I was like, what you speak on what you speak. Oh, okay. All right. Now I know. Cause now when I get an opportunity for whatever, Hey, dab, I know you're busy with your 26 jobs, but, um, are you available to come down to the DC and speak, you know? And so that's what I'm saying. That's why community is important. Yes, it is. It's important. And, um, with your entrepreneurship and your clients, like, do you have your own community? Yes. Nice. Yes, yes, yes. Nice. Okay. That's what's up. And then, so for this year, for 2020, for Sassow School, oh, wait a hold on, let me get back. Talk a little bit about your book. I know you said you was an author. Yes, yes, yes. Well, I have a few books and I'm just gonna put them to put them to the screen real quick. Give us one. Oh, wait a minute. How many books have you wrote? I've wrote three. This one is called You Have a Successful Mindset in You. Okay. All right. This one is called You Have Real Estate in You. And this one is called, Grab My Hand As I Walk You Through The Homeowner Process. How did I know that? And in June, on my birthday, June 20th, I have my new book coming out called, You Can't Serve Two Masters. It's a guide for effective decision making. It's called, You Can't Serve Two Masters, coming out June 20th on my birthday this year. And that was another habit that I picked up of writing during COVID. And I just stuck with it because it's some thoughts in my head and I just get up early in the morning and flow with it. So you done wrote three books and what year did the first book come out? How many years has it been since you've been with these three books? The first one came out in 2022 and I put two came out in 2022 and one came out 2023. And I have the you can't serve two masters is coming out this year 2024 and in 2025 I have another one called black men get depressed too and That's 2025 these books are rude. I mean these books are finished I'm being convicted to grow at this moment, y 'all. My first book was in 2017 and I'm not going to lie, I've been procrastinating on that second book. It's so funny you're saying this. I just said something the other day on the live to people. We got to start putting a date on it. We got to start putting a date on something. It took me a while to get this podcast out. I mean, I say it took a while because I kept living in my head. I live in my head, this ain't right, this ain't right. I got to get this equipment. I gotta get this thing. Oh, well let me lose a little weight. Like y 'all, I was living in my head with all these fears and doubts of trying to get something started. God had already told me last year, you ready, but I, when he gives you the free will, I was holding myself back. And I put a date on it, which was 2 -24-24. That was the release of this podcast. And so just to hear you say that, you already got them written. Y 'all can't tell, listen y 'all, y 'all can't tell me. There's no excuses. This man has wrote three books within a two year, going on three year span, like three books already. And I am, just so you guys know, I will get the links and website of the books. I will put them in a description of the show notes. So you guys can make sure you go and get that. I'll also put it on our YouTube channel in the description with the direct links. So please, please, please, you know, if you rock with me, make sure you go and support him. Wow, I did not know you had three books. Yeah. Well, I really got four out, but one I did in 2008 and I stay away from that because that was that hood novel ever. Wait a minute. Hold on. So you mean to tell me you got another Book of Dream? That was in the hood novel ever. And you know, it was a funny, it's a good book, but it was the hood novel ever when everybody was writing the urban novels and all that. So we wrote it, me and my team, we wrote an urban novel in 2008, you know, so. Cause my company, my company is called Black Congress Enterprises. Black what? Black Congress Enterprises. And what it stands for is Black Cons Can Progress. And in 2008, we put out a book called The Black Congress. 201. So, but that was one of them urban novels, you know, so, but you know, I done swayed away from that, from the fiction to the non -fiction as I grew, you know, so. Anybody who know you, I don't know if you know, you know, when we grow, sometimes we grow out of our circles, right? But anybody who do know you that you may still see in passing or whatever, can they believe at all? Like, do they see you? What is the reaction? I mean, cause you doing the daggone thing. I'm just, I have to say, I'm just doing God's work and trying my best. Wow, doing God's work and trying my best. And you got no, I want to purchase those books myself. Is it on your website or is it on you? The e -books are on my website, but the physical books are on Amazon. Everything is on amazon .com. If they put my name in, Davila Turner, all my books will come up. Okay, on Amazon. Okay, that's good to know. And I'm in a process right now, I've been working this week cause I didn't think about it. I let it slip my mind, but now I'm in the process of getting them audible and audible too. So I've been picking over voices and people to do the voice speaking for me on the book. So they'll probably be in audible before the end of March. Wow. Okay. I like that. So you really, you have several niche audiences like. The people in real estate, right? Those in real estate. Then you got the men, the men where, like you said, you got a book. What's the, I think a future book coming out. I heard the word man is something. Oh, black men get depressed too. Take me just a little bit of that, like when you are thinking about a book, because a lot of times people be saying, I need to write my book, I need to write my book, but I got a story, I got a story. Is it, is it, cause you, you still work and you still got a family, you got the grandkids. What do you do? You just be sitting at home some time or you, you in the bed or you wake up at three o 'clock in the morning and God gives you this revelation and you like, oh yeah, that's going to be the next thing. Well, I'm a 430 in the morning person I wake up. So what I do is I wake up, makes a lot of prayer. And then I'm at peace after that. So therefore I usually write between five and six. I don't have to write every day, but I'll write between five and six. And if I go on vacation, I still write when I'm on a vacation. Cause I still wake up at them times no matter what. Cause my mind is at its purest form early in the morning and at its clearest form. So. I get up, put me some soft music or soft jazz on and just start writing and flowing. Every single day? Almost every day. Okay. I see. God most knew I needed to interview you. You have really just spoke life into me. Like trust no excuse. No excuse. Cause I, you know, I'm on the ETUOU community and I'm doing this 30 day challenge with them over there for this month of February where we've had to get up at seven. And it's so funny you said something because ET said, listen, I'm sparing y'all of doing this thing at seven. He said, but I really get up at three, four o 'clock in the morning. He said, but I knew if I would have did a four o 'clock AM challenge or three AM or five AM, half of y 'all wouldn't be on the call. And then, and you're doing it. And, and, and the rest of the people success with that, tell the listeners why getting up early is important in terms of starting your day. Cause I've heard ET said, I heard, um, what's his name? I've been listening to his podcast, Ed, my let the Ed, my let show. Um, they talk about that. Like the successful people, they up while we still dreaming. Well, I haven't hit the success they hit yet, but hopefully I do. We manifesting it. We manifesting Yes, yes. But I get up 430 because I make Fajr prayer as a Muslim, you know, so I get up and make prayer first. And then once I get finished with that, I'm just at a peaceful state. And my house is at its quietest and it's still at that time. So therefore, my thinking process is at its purest form. Because once I start a new day, Whatever problems I went through the past day is irrelevant. I leave them there. I had to learn how to leave some of that stuff in the past, you know, so, cause it's not gonna benefit me today. I gotta work on a new way to get that done today. That's all, you know. So like I said, I'm at my thinking is that is best for him early in the morning. That's like when me and you was talking the other day and I was like, listen, if I'm gonna do a podcast, it gotta be early cause once five or six, what I told you, once six, seven o 'clock at night, it ain't gonna happen cause. I'm winding down and I'm tiring down, cause I'm up early, you know, so, but my best energy is early in the morning. I have my best energy. I'm gonna try that for the month of March. I'm challenging myself. I know I can't do fourth, like I said, I can't do, I'm already playing the seed. I can't do something. See, that's, see y 'all, listen, I told y'all, y 'all gonna grow with me. This episode, which will probably be episode five. Look. I'm going to bring him back before the end of the year and I'm going to have him do a little coaching session or whatever. And he's be like, Hey, what's up dad? Guess what? I'm getting up at five now. Cool. Cool. Cool. No, but I appreciate you saying that because as an entrepreneur and there are still entrepreneurs that work in a nine to five and still trying to do a business. But you're saying, listen, I'm getting up early, start my day, commanding my day. I'm man, listen, y 'all he's manifesting a peaceful day. And you know, the thing about me is this, even as a real estate broker, an agent, I still do real estate, I still work, I still show houses. But people know on the weekday, I am done after 5 p .m. I have to set my boundaries because I'm off work now. I've started early, I finished early because I'm not gonna drain myself. Because when you get off work, you wanna relax and have your day. When I get off, I wanna relax and have mine. So that's how I am. Y 'all hear that? He said set boundaries. So that's another recipe for your success. You get up, command your day, but you set boundaries. So what does somebody say to you? Now look, I'm giving you a hypothetical situation. I already know the answer, but I just want to put it out there for fun. Somebody I love calling you, it's 6 .30, five. And they need to see this house. Like they ready, like they put, you know, they want to, they want to see it. How would you handle that? Um, after 5 .30, six o 'clock, banking hours is closed. So we can't do nothing with this house, but basically that I can't do tomorrow. You know, they're not gonna accept the offer by the morning, nine out of 10. You know, so we can deal with this issue tomorrow. Cause I'm be honest, I might not even answer the phone. Cause once I get to that me time moment, work is over. You could call me, text me, it's an emergency. It don't matter to me. It's your emergency, not mine. I have my set time. And if I don't set my boundary, like in the beginning, when I first started real estate 20 something years ago, I would go through that, you know, oh dad, it's a merger, I wanna see that. But I'm an established broker now, you know, I have other agents, I could tell them call my other agents if they feel like working and stuff like that, you know, but I'm not doing it. I'm being honest, I don't care who it is. It could be my uncle, it could be anybody. I am not doing it, I am off of work. And I expect you to respect my off time as well as your off time. that part and you heard him say, it can be his uncle. Like y 'all that's setting boundaries. I just said this yesterday, setting boundaries means the art of saying no, no, I can't go. No, I can't give. No, I can't let you borrow. No, I, I know, no, no. The power of saying no, look, that might be another book for you. Cause I'm telling you the power of saying no, no, it's going to protect your peace. Yes, it will. It's going to protect your peace. And I'm just like, Wow, just to hear that, like to hear you say like, this is what I'm doing. Now I see like, I'm gonna try that. I'm gonna try it the dead way for the month of March and see if I can write a book in a month. You can. I'm gonna tell you, Doran Colvin what made me write, I got a book coach. I had got a book coach. I met a guy online named Denard Mitchell and he does speaking as well too, but he was my book coach and the way he had me formatted, set it up and stayed on me writing. it was definitely worth the money that I paid them. And ever since then, it just was instilled in me and it was something I wanted to do. And when COVID came, I said, now is the time to get this book out. You're stuck in the house, you're not really working, get the book out, do the book. And it definitely really worked. And a book coach, back to having coaches too. Nothing wrong with getting a coach, learning from a coach, nothing is wrong with it. And you don't always look for a free coach. Like I said, I paid for that man's service and that man, for the money I paid for him, I done put five books together. My first book, I sold, but I sold about 1300 copies of my first book. You have real estate in you. So, you know, so it was definitely, I got my money plus and plus the other books, you know, so it was definitely worth the money I'm paying for Mr. Mitchell to coach me. Y 'all, to all. my coaches, consultants, speakers, service-based business, or those who trying to get into a business. You heard him. He said he paid for a coach. I mean, you got your return on investment because even you are a coach, you had to be coachable. Yes. And being coachable is, I mean, y 'all, and I ain't lie, listen, I struggle with that sometimes because some people, they be taking advantage of me, Deb. I ain't gonna even lie. Like, you my coach, you my coach. I have people calling me and that's what I need to do more of, what you just said. Calling me, you my coach. And because they nice and they been my friend, I don't... I'm like, how many coaches I ain't never invoiced you. I don't understand. Like, don't say that. Don't call me coach. Just say trust up. But I do have people say that. That's my coach. And I'm like, I ain't even. And then here I go struggle with, listen, if you're going to take up my time and you want me to do this and read this and go over this with you, you're going to have to pay me. And I always say you will get supported by strangers. that you were family and friends. If you're trying to grow your business to an established, like he just said, established business, correct me if I'm wrong. Your friends and family didn't get you to an established business, did they? But I will say they do support me. I do have a strong support system with my friends and family and I appreciate them. That's what it's all about. So to my families and friends out there that got someone in the family that hustling and grinding, listen, show them grace, show them support, love on them, support them. It don't cost nothing to like, comment, share, put it in your stories. Like you don't find too many people to say I got a supportive family and friends. A lot of them want the free 99 service, right? Let's keep it real with that. So to those out there, did you see someone in your family or your friend, your circle that's doing it, support them. That goes a long way because that's reciprocity. Cause I'm pretty sure when, when, when, when you're reaping those awards rewards, you know, you look out, you look back, you, you know, whatever that looks like. So, excuse me. Of course I have to edge this out cause I'm coughing, but, um, Man, that many books. I gotta write that down. But you know what it is, sometimes we don't know what our purpose is sometimes until we start doing things. Then your purpose just flows. Like once I started writing, I felt it was just a purpose to put that information out there, especially the real estate information. Cause people used to ask me the same questions all the time. So let me put in a book so you can highlight it, write it and study it. And then I started writing the other one. Let me put the one out about first time home buyers. So therefore you have all the information. I even have, I put it on the back burner a little bit, but I have a first time home buyer course. I have a course too, that I did too. So I really put it on the back burner a little bit, because I've been focusing on everything else. But I have a course that's for sale on my website too. They could buy that too. And it's a lifetime course for about $89. You could go through it, go through the sessions. It has everything with credit repairs as well. a bunch of different information in the course and it's you're watching and go along with it as it go. But I found that as part of being a purpose once I started writing it was like, I just got to keep putting information out there. And then the mindset, like I talk to people and stuff just hit a light on me sometimes. Because I deal with a lot of friends that don't have the mindset, you know, and they still my friends, you know, people I grew up with stuff like that. So I started putting books out now someone buy him that he like, oh, wow, I didn't think about this. but it gives a way to get them thinking different too. Like you're an author, let me buy it to support you. A lot of people buy it to support, we'll sit it on the shelf, but one day they're gonna pick it up and read it. Then you'll realize you made a difference in their life. Absolutely. And I know we're of course, you know, about to wrap up, but writing books for those who have just wrote a book, they're like, I wrote a book now. Well, cause some people write books and I get it, they didn't wrote it. But then that just to keep it real, they ain't really selling either. How did you, what was your strategy? Did you use sponsored ads? I mean, I you said you had a supportive cast, of course, that looked out for you, but did you do sponsored ads? Did you do workshops? A little bit of everything? My thing was just more so consistent. Like once I put the book out, a lot of people wanted to support me. And I had my people from, my friends from Georgia, everything, buying the book. And every time they'd buy the book, they'd tag me. And then I'd put it on my page. So every time somebody bought my book, they'd take a picture of showing it, holding it, I put it on my page. Now everybody's seeing everybody buying a book. And some people like, I want to buy the book to see what's in it. And you know, like, it's like word of mouth. It's a word of mouth thing for me more so. And people started reading it and realizing that it was a lot of information in the book. And then people told other people, I've had people say, Dav, I bought the book and read it and bought four for my cousins, you know, because they needed this information. So. And I tried to make it simplified and basic so that way we don't look at the big book and be like, oh, it's intimidating, you know? So I was, cause you know how we look at a big book. We were like, oh, that's a big, I ain't really gonna get to that book. But if you look at something that don't look too big, you be like, oh, I can read this in a day or two. But, and I did a lot of word of mouth, my book sold word of mouth and people supporting me and tagging me in the pitches and wanting people to know that they purchased it and supported me. because I do support a lot of people. I believe in, I'm not a one way person. I believe in you support me, I support you. So when you doing something, I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna support it. I don't care if your kid got the $40 popcorn that they selling for the ball, basketball game. I buy this stuff because you asked me for support and I know you're a person that will support me. So therefore your children is part of the village. So therefore I'm gonna support them as well as you support me. So, you know, it's just about being supportive. Nice. Listen, if you're watching this on YouTube, um, at the bottom, make sure you go pick him up. Follow him. I like what you said. You post it. That power of social media is everything. Listen, if you're trying to be a entrepreneur, business owner, you gotta, you gotta leverage your social media. You gotta leverage it. Especially if you have followers. I can, you know, some people have followers. They don't even engage. They don't promote. They don't post. That's your digital real estate, right? You know what, Tracer, you know what's so funny? Another thing about me is like, how do you say it? I'm not a bully to an extent, but I'm a little bit bullier sometimes because I say this because if I have a book out, you can't be around me and don't buy my book. I just feel different about that. Like I have friends that own bars and clubs. And when I walk in with the book, listen, give me $20. Wait a minute, you walked in the bar with the book? Yeah, I go in with my books. My friends own businesses, like a lot of my friends have businesses and own businesses. So I walk in and if you know me and I know you, I'm putting a book in your hand and say, give me $20. This is how I am. I know how to sell my product. Because one thing about us, and this is so funny, right? This is funny and not down to some of my black people. I don't wanna get you canceled or that like that. But you know us, we will find a way not to buy something. We were fired anyway not to buy something. So me, I'm going to put it in your hand and say, give me 20. I sell different. I'm a salesman. I sell different. I know when to ask for the sale and go for the sale. And I put your hand and say, give me $20. You supporting me now. You know, I'm just different. What about when they say, well, would you take 10? No, my book is $20. Now if I got, if I changed the price, like now, now I changed it on Amazon and went down to $10, you know. because I've had them out for New Year and every time I put a new one out, I make the old ones go down. But this is not negotiable. My book is $20. 12 people just gave me $20. I'm going to accept 10 from you. No, it don't work that way. You mess with me, you support me. That's how I feel. I said I have Amazon Prime. I'm going to go today. I'm telling you now, I'm not going get the real estate one because that don't apply to me. But that other one you had. Say your books again, the title of your books one more You have a successful mindset in you? Yes. Yes. Oh my gosh. And I hope it has, man, listen, you don't understand. Like I am getting, even though I'm hosting this, I've gotten some valuable gems from you. You really making me think when I'm going into this march, I would say it was March Madness, M -A -D, motivating the determined. And it's like, Okay, Trista, you gotta shift and pivot and be more... Like, I wanna do that. I wanna get up at five. Like, you get up at five in the morning on Saturdays too? I get up every day. My body don't allow me to stay down. So I don't need a long clock or nothing. I'm up. Yeah. I'ma try that. And y 'all here to hear first, because again, this is holding me accountable. I'ma push myself to write every day. I'm not saying a book is going to be published by April, but I want to push myself to write the convict. Cause I've, the convicted to grow was supposed to be the second book, which is crazy. Cause now I got convicted to grow coaching LLC and convicted to grow podcast. All right, God, I heard you loud and clear. I'm telling y 'all see how that works. I didn't, I didn't got convicted in this moment to, okay, trust you got to be the product of the product. And so. I ain't lying. It's gonna start flowing. Watch, it will start flowing. Watch. Gosh. It'll start flowing. What time you go to bed at night? It depends. Most of the time I'm usually in bed before 9, 9, 30. I try to stay up sometimes to catch the 10 o 'clock news, but sometimes it watch me. If I'm home, it's going to watch me. I know that for a fact. But I try to stay up to watch it. Ooh. I'm gonna go ahead and listen. You need to get your own podcast or something. The Power of Discipline, y 'all. That's gonna be another book, The Power of Discipline, because you are very disciplined. Was you ever in the military or something? Jail is the military. You're getting up four o 'clock there. It's not, you know, so go and support him, follow him. Um, because in order to grow, you got, it's reciprocity is reciprocity. A lot of people, I be seeing some people, they got all these followers, but they only follow two people. Now, again, if you up there, like the Beyonce's of the world and all that, I get it. You're in that different thing. But when you at that place where you're trying to grow and build your brand and build your business, it's a reciprocity, okay? So you just never know. But I can speak to anyone because I've done female groups. I've done juvenile female groups. I've done a lot of financial literacy at the high schools too. Because a lot of time they let me come in and take over the classes up here where I'm at. And I really enjoy speaking to the younger adults because what I try to do is if I can reach one, my job is done. If I can reach 50. That's even better, but I just want to try to get them before they ever get lost and make wrong decisions. And I like speaking to them because I know how to get their attention. I love that. So yes, you're here to hear. Make sure if you're looking for a speaker, make sure you book him, okay? Make sure you book him. This has been great. I really do appreciate your time, because I know time is everything and you didn't have to do it. And I do appreciate that. And, you know, because by that time we can promote the school and things you got going on. And because again, I do want to support you and I'm going to get a book. I ain't going to just say it. You know how some people say, Oh, I'm to hammer up some boys. You go see, I don't know how, how soon you'll see Amazon notify you. Do they, when they, I can't remember, cause I'm on it too. They don't tell you who purchased the book, right? No, they don't say who purchased it. They just let you know units moving, you know. Okay. Well you gonna know, cause when I purchase it and get in the mail, I'm a tag it in my stories and I'll definitely put it out there. So I, like I said, and then I'm excited. And when the next book comes out, please let me know so I can share it to my social media. Now, before we go, I asked this with every guest. So I kind of put them on the spot. So 90 seconds or 60 seconds or less, what does convicted to grow mean to you? Well, convicted to grow means this, we're here all together as a unit and we have all a family. And when we've convicted to grow, we're gonna make sure we do it collectively. You are my sister, everyone is on here is my sister and my brother and us.
